Principal’s Message
Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,

Spring is in the air and everyone is looking forward to the break! We have squeezed a lot in the weeks leading up to break.

Our STEAM Team hosted an energetic STEAM Night last week.  Families had a blast exploring new engineering concepts and learning from the grade level projects on display.  The evening ended with families building an artistic robot. A special thanks to Ms. Baele, Mrs. Weber, Miss Wagner, and Mrs. Sabo for making this event a reality.

On March 24th families joined together to beautify and upgrade our garden and playground during the Love SLO event.  It was great fun to have kindergarteners, parents, staff, spouses and even alumnus digging in the weeds and layering on the paint.  A very special thanks to parent Shannon Whisenand and our PTA for organizing this event.

We celebrated ways to be kind, brave and strong at our last Roadrunner Assembly.  Miss Grossi shared some of the great ideas from students while Mr. Getten accompanied us on the guitar.  We linked a paper chain of ideas and beliefs that make us stronger together.  We wrapped it up by singing a beautiful rendition of Give a Little Love.
I wish you and your family a wonderful and restful spring break.
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Third graders enjoyed another Los Ranchos Fiesta with dancing, singing and treats!

Principal's Message
Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos Elementary,
This was a week of celebrations. Our 3rd graders celebrated their annual Fiesta and we hosted the 2017 - 18 Science Fair. At the Science Fair we had 99 scientists participating this year. Even the rain could not deter the enthusiasm and excitement. A special thanks to  Sylvia Gomes and Reilly Wagner for organizing the event,  and to parents Kristin Escalle and Tiffany Emry. Their support helped to make the event run smoothly.

Our second STEAM Night will be Thursday, March 22 from 6:00 to 7:00. There will be engaging Science/Engineering activities to investigate. Every grade will have examples of classroom explorations in engineering practices. PTA will be selling pizza by the slice. We hope you can join us.

Love SLO is happening on Saturday, March 24. Love SLO began in 2016 as an annual community wide day of service. Volunteers work on projects from 9:00 - 12:00. Los Ranchos Elementary  is hosting a couple projects thanks to PTA member Shannon Whisenand.  We will be working in our garden and snazzing - up our backboards on the playground. If you want to know more go to https://www.loveslo.com/communityservice. We hope you can participate. Bring your gardening gloves and shovels!

Have a restful weekend.

Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos Elementary,

Our Los Ranchos Science Celebration is almost here! It is one of our favorite days of the year.  Scientists can choose from Life Science, Physical Science or Earth and Space Science, the choice is yours. Then, work through the Scientific Process, finding that question or problem that is most intriguing. Students can work individually or with a friend or sibling. Above all, make it fun!

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

If you have not done so already, please fill out our LCAP survey to help the district determine how to use state funds for our schools.
Local Control Accountability (LCAP) Survey:
All school districts in California are required to develop a three-year Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) that describes how state funds will be used to improve student academic achievement. The LCAP must incorporate how the district is spending its supplementary funds, 4.5 million dollars, to meet the needs of students with greater challenges, including English learners, socio-economically disadvantaged students, and foster/homeless youth. In San Luis Coastal Unified School District (SLCUSD), we have constructed an LCAP that takes those supplementary funds along with general fund dollars (federal, state, and local) to implement five focus areas established by our Board of Trustees. The overall LCAP budget is approximately 6 million dollars out of our 92 million dollar budget. Engaging parents, students, community members, and school employees in developing, reviewing, and supporting implementation of the LCAP is critical to its success.
Please take a few minutes to complete the LCAP Survey. We value and appreciate the input from parents, staff, and community. The feedback will be used to revise our LCAP for 2018-2019. The LCAP Survey will be open until March 23rd.
