Newsletter, Summer 2017

Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
It is hard to believe that our school year has come to an end. There are many things to celebrate about this school year. Your children have worked hard and learned so much. Everyone is looking a year older and wiser.

We celebrated our sixth graders over these last few days. It has been a honor for all of us to be part of their early years. We look forward to hearing about their future accomplishments and adventures.  We will miss them.

We have many changes next year in our staffing. As you know Mr. Becker is transferring over to Hawthorne Elementary. Mr. Becker has served the students of Los Ranchos for many years. We will miss him and wish him all the best. Mr. Becker’s departure, along with many other factors, created opportunities for other staffing changes.  Mrs. Harper is moving to 2nd grade. Miss Grossi, Mrs. Harper and Ms. Lesinski will  carry on the amazing work of the 2nd grade team. We are excited to have Mrs. Block partnering with Miss Wagner in 4th grade. I know they are going to make a great team.  Another change will take place in 5th grade. Next year we will have  three small classes of 5th graders. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Gomes,  Ms. Johnson and Mrs. McMillen/ Ms. Smiley (shared contract) take the lead in fifth grade.

The Los Ranchos READ in 50 PLACES Challenge is back! Every Kindergartener - 5th grader received a copy of the challenge page.  Students can check off all the fun places they read over the summer.  Don’t forget to  email  a picture of your child reading  to Cherie Bruce at lrsummerreaders@gmail.com as soon as they have read in 30 places. We will add the picture to our READ in 50 PLACES slideshow. The slideshow is a great way to launch the new year at the first assembly. We hope to see everyone’s picture in the slide show next year.
I wish you all a relaxing and memorable summer vacation.
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt
