Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,

Go Team Los Ranchos! Your kids are going to be tired tonight. From our youngest to our oldest, students walked, ran and raced for a full hour at our Walk-a-thon. They were undaunted by the heat of the day. Students, organizers, parents and staff should feel very proud of their accomplishment today.

An event of this magnitude does not happen magically. It reflects hours and hours of time and energy before, during and after the track is taken down. I want to thank our outstanding Walk-a-thon leadership, Stacey White and Jen Ross. They were supported by an amazing team: Sarah Pederson, Kristin Escalle, Barb Beckett, Joanna Whitcher, Heidi Gill, Erika Schuetze and our eye in the sky photographer, Wolfgang Kaml.

The success of the day was also dependent on the scores of parents and friends who showed up. Your enthusiastic cheering kept spirits high. The water station quenched our thirst and the tally markers kept us on track and motivated.  A special thanks to the Kramer family of Kramer Events, Inc. Their music kept us energized. The Walk-a-thon is a favorite day at school. It is about fundraising, but it is also about community, working together and creating memorable moments for our kids. Thank you all!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,

Marlie Schmidt

Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
Students enjoyed a rousing assembly spotlighting our upcoming Walk-a-thon! It is hard to believe it is in a week.  Charlotte, Luke and Sam did a great job sharing all the important details.  Their message was important; this is the only fundraiser of the year and it pays for all the programs and materials we have come to love and depend on. From art to technology, soccer goals to field trips, robotics to math enrichment, and everything in between. The best part . . . it is a really fun day for the whole school community. We appreciate your participation on the field and on the fundraising!

Digital Citizenship is a big focus for us. This week in the library, Mrs. Sabo discussed digital citizenship with students in grades K-6, using material provided by Common Sense Media, as required by the district. Some of the topics covered were:
  • Going Places Safely Online
  • Email guidelines
  • Showing Respect Online
  • Talking Safely Online
  • The Power of Words
  • Scams and Schemes

We encourage parents to have frequent dialogue and thoughtful conversations with your students about making great choices in their digital lives. For more information and guidelines, please visit the  Common Sense Media website and browse their Family Guides and Parent Concerns pages. We will be hosting a Digital Citizenship presentation for parents on Tuesday, November 14 from 6:00  - 7:00. Our presenter is a representative from our Sheriff’s Department. I hope you can join us.

Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
We just wrapped up our campaign season for Student Council.   It was an outstanding group of candidates this year. Our school has been covered with beautiful and creative campaign posters. Each candidate delivered a thoughtful and well prepared  speech. It was particularly impressive how respectful, encouraging and supportive the candidates were of each other. I want to congratulate Max, Brighton, Holland and Giana. We are looking forward to their leadership. A special thanks to Ms. Johnson for running the campaign and guiding all of the candidates through the process.

Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
Students enjoy having different options during lunch. These are all provided by you, our dedicated parents. We are re-starting Chess Club on Monday, October 9th and continuing with the Game Room. We would love to have more parents help out. We are looking for some parents to start up our Tinker Room, and how about Ping-Pong! We have the tables if you have the time.  Please let Cherie know at cbruce@slcusd.org if you can help. Volunteering at lunch supports our whole school community.
