Principal’s Message
Dear Friends and Familes of Los Ranchos,
IMG_6416.JPG
We have an enthusiastic and dedicated group of sixth graders in the band his year.  Some have been coming to school at 7:30am and some stay late.  Their dedication and hard work has paid off.  This last week they had two performances.  One was at SLO High School with 100 other sixth graders.  The second performance was here at school.  Both performances were outstanding.  I want to thank Ms. Lake, our music teacher, for her dedication to this program and to our students.
We are excited about Open House this Thursday, May 26.  It is a wonderful time for our students to share their work from across the curriculum, for teachers to connect with parents, and for friends and families to catch up. We hope to see you here!

Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

This spring, the Y has experienced labor shortages at many of their childcare sites.  These shortages are being experienced throughout the country due to the strong economy and are also being experienced by Y’s throughout California.  While they have been able to provide adequate staffing to their programs to date, it has been a great strain on their staff team and on their operations.  It is for these reasons our Y is making adjustments to some of their childcare programs.

As of June 1st, 2016, the Los Ranchos Before School Program will operate on Mondays only.  Before school care will no longer be offered Tuesdays-Fridays.  Additionally, the Transitional Kindergarten Program will no longer be offered.

The Y greatly apologizes for the inconvenience or challenges this change might cause for you and your family.  This change will continue for the foreseeable future.  They will evaluate their ability to reinstate for the next academic school year.

If you need to contact the Y with questions or concerns you may call them at (805) 543-8235.

Library Reminder:
Remember that all library books are due the week of May 23 - 27. If there are any books still missing at the end of that week, outstanding loss and/or damage notices will be mailed home by June 3rd..  As stated in the Annual Parent Notice, “Library book processing standards prohibit the school district from accepting donated copies of a library book that has been lost or damaged in lieu of payment.”  Encourage your students to return their library books on time! Please also be aware that if there are any missing books that have not been paid for,  your student will not receive their report card at the end of the year.  Thanks for helping us get all of our books back!

Class lists for 2016-2017

The teachers at Los Ranchos place children in classrooms according to the best interest of all students, both individually and collectively. We pay careful attention to creating balanced classes by considering the following factors:
  • student’s academic ability
  • student’s behaviors
  • student/student compatibility
  • gender balance
  • individual student needs
This is a complex process. Our goal is to create classroom communities where the combination of students help to  build positive and productive learning environments. Our teachers know our students well. We appreciate your trust in this process.
We understand, however,  that there are circumstances known to parents/guardians that would be helpful for school staff when making placements. If you want to share this information with us, we will happily take it into consideration. Please complete this form or pick it up in the office. The form should be turned into the Los Ranchos office by Tuesday, May 31.

Classroom Placement

Medication Reminder
DISPOSAL OF MEDICATION: On the last day of school, the office will be cleaning out the student medication drawer.  If your child has medication at school, please come by to pick it up. Due to safety regulations, we are unable to send medication home with a student. All medication remaining at the school site after the last day of school in June will be disposed of according to safety regulations.
Medications at school next year: A new Medication Consent Form will need to be completed and signed by your health care provider each new school year. Forms are available from the school secretary.

Cafeteria Reminder
It’s a huge help to our cafeteria if there are NO negative balances at the end of the school year.  Please check your student’s account to make sure that you do not have a negative balance.  You can go to EZSchoolPay to check your balance.  Positive Balances will carry over at the end of the school year or used at Summer School.

Electronic Flyers
In an effort to reduce the amount of paper that we send home, we will be working on attaching electronic flyers to our weekly newsletter in lieu of our brown folder and paper flyers.
