Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,

Our kindergarten parents had an opportunity to learn all about the powers of literacy from our kindergarten teachers, Maija Beaudoin and Summer Weber. It was a jammed packed presentation where parents added a whole set of new tools to their reading tool bags.I want to thank all the parents who attended. There was a great turn-out. A special thanks to our teachers for hosting  such an important and informative evening.

Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,

Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
File_000.jpeg
It feels like an early thanksgiving newsletter. We had so many great events this last week thanks to our dedicated parents. I am grateful for their time and energy.

Melissa Allen and Barbara Beckett led an army of volunteers for a morning of eye popping chalk artwork. It was great to have so many enthusiastic parents throughout the morning supporting the creative process.
Families continued to enjoy the festivities at our Fall Family Dinner.  Thank you to everyone who came. It was our biggest one ever!!  I want to thank Amy Garrett and the parents who worked to put on the event. Michele Sioredas, Jamie Brow, Erica Espinoza, Angela McConnell, Katie Walsh, Lesley Dierks, Lisa Dumas, Jenny Quaglino and Whitney Baird were all part of Amy’s team. Our very own roadrunning family, Kramer Events, Inc. helped to set a festive tone with music throughout the evening. Roady greeted folks with  hugs and showed off some new Roadrunner dance moves.

This was the first year that the PTA worked with a food truck to provide the meals. Every new idea presents new challenges. The Los Ranchos PTA would like to apologize for the long food lines. Expectations were clearly made to Food Truck owner, unfortunately they were overwhelmed.  Please be assured that PTA will make every effort to make sure this does not happen again. If you purchased meal tickets and were unable to eat and would like to request a refund, please contact Amy Garrett at agarrettpt@yahoo.com.
We had our first Roadrunner Assembly today. We honored students for being self-directed in addition to citizenship, bravery, perseverance and a number of other character traits that make Los Ranchos a great place to learn and grow.  The Los Ranchos Song was bolstered  by a talented band of parents and staff. A special thanks to  Doug Groshart, Mark Getten, Cherie Hovey and Pam Richerson for their musical contributions. Thank you parents and friends for attending. Your continued and enthusiastic support makes all the difference.

Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
Three weeks into the school year and we continue to add new layers to our program. Soon our intervention teachers will begin their work in all classrooms, K - 6th. We are fortunate to have Kelly Attala, Rachel Groshart and Michelle Kass as part of our teaching team. They work with students in Math, Reading and Writing. At times their work is to provide extra support, at other times they provide enrichment. Our PTA generously supports our Math enrichment for all of our 4th - 6th graders.
Our first grade garden is looking beautiful and ready for planting thanks to a team of dedicated parents and students who braved the heat to till, weed, harvest, and hoe. A special thanks to 1st grade parent alumnus David Whitcher who made countless trips in his truck to deliver the necessary soil and wood chips. Thank you Los Ranchos families. Together we make Los Ranchos strong.

Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,

Thank you for coming out to our Back to School Night, especially on such a warm evening. It was great to see classes spilling over with parents. A special thanks to Erika Schuetze, our PTA president, for sharing her vision and goals for our PTA this year. PTA meetings will be in the evenings in order to include as many parents as possible. Childcare will be provided by the YMCA. The first meeting is on Tuesday, September 12.

Lunch recess is a busy time at Los Ranchos. It is a time to connect with old friends and cultivate new friendships. Students take on new athletic challenges on the field, on the structures and the blacktop. And, we have some rousing games of four square. It is all supported by our amazing team of parent noon-supervisors. We are looking for a few more parents to join the team. The noon-supervisor’s job is to keep students safe and to facilitate conflict resolution between students. This is not a high paying job, but it pays off in huge dividends in other ways.

As a noon-supervisor you build rapport  and relationships with all the students, reaching way beyond your child’s immediate circle of friends.  The relationships you build with your child’s schoolmates  will be invaluable as  your child moves on to middle school and high school. As a noon-supervisor you are a key player in building community for your school and your child.  The more connected we are as a community, the healthier the community is for our children.  Please let Cherie know at cbruce@slcusd.org if you are interested in this position. It is from 12:00 - 1:00,  Monday - Friday. We also encourage parents to sign-up if they can only do a couple days a week.

Have a great three day weekend!
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt
