Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,

Thank you for making this year’s Open House so memorable.  We had a great kick off by our 6th grade band in the quad. I hope you had a chance to pop into the multipurpose room. Our P.E. teachers, Mrs. Erickson and Ms. Lancaster, had fun activities set up so students could show off some new skills. Classrooms were bursting with this trimester’s projects, publications, art and examples of learning from across the curriculum.  Your enthusiasm and attendance made it all worth it!

Over ninety students participated in Battle of the Books today. Students worked in multi-grade teams, recalling the thematic details of dozens of books they have read over the year. It is an impressive opportunity to combine teamwork and reading. A special thanks goes to Barbara Beckett and Melissa Allen for heading up the event and to their army of parent volunteers.

We hope to see you next Friday, June 2 for our family picnic.  Grab your blanket, fill up a picnic basket and join us from 12:15 - 1:00.  We know there are some parents who can’t make it so plan on making extra room on your blanket to include extra friends and classmates. We invite you to bring an extra blanket or two. Music will be provided by Nikki’s family, Kramer Events, Inc.

I hope you enjoy a lovely Memorial Day weekend.
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Los Ranchos students did a great job raising and donating money for Hunger Awareness Day. Sandie the Sandwich helped to get the word out. I was heartened by all the stories of students washing cars, doing extra chores and dipping into their Piggy Banks to donate their dollar or dollars to out local Food Bank. With Sandie the Sandwich’s help in drumming up enthusiasm, we raised $505.52! The Student Council will be presenting a check to the Food Bank during our last assembly.

Our Family Picnic is coming soon! Grab your picnic blanket and basket and join us on Friday, June 2.  Lunch will be from 12:15 to 1:00. We know there are some parents who can’t make it during lunch so plan on making extra room on your blanket to include extra friends and classmates. We invite you to bring an extra blanket or two. We will have music too, thanks to a Nikki’s family with Kramer Events, Inc.

I hope you enjoy a lovely weekend.
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Fidget spinners seem to be the new craze. Our school considers these fidget spinners to be toys and they are not allowed at school.
Students may see some fidgets spinners in classroom. In these cases they are owned by teachers and are being used for a specific purpose.
Please remind your students to keep spinners and all other toys at at home.  Thank you for your help.

All library books are due the week of May 22 - 26. Outstanding loss and damage notices will be mailed home by June 2nd to those students who have not returned their library books by May 26th. Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
Road closure update! The Amgen Tour of California Bike Race is coming by our school next Tuesday, May 16. The race will be passing by on highway 227 at approximately 2:51 p.m., right at the end of the school day.  It has been our experience that the racers pass by quickly and the race organizers open the road up as soon as possible. School buses will arrive early at school and they will leave school as soon as the road opens. Whether you are picking kids up at school, or  waiting for kids at a bus stop, be prepared for delays. We appreciate your patience and flexibility. Please go to  SLO City News for more information.
Join us for a family picnic on Friday, June 2. Bring a  picnic lunch and blanket to spread out on. This will be a time to connect with your childrens’ classmates and families before our summer schedules begin. Lunch recess will be from 12:15 - 1:00. We hope you can join us.

Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt

Principal’s Message

Dear Friends and Families of Los Ranchos,
What an eventful week we have had! It started with the water getting shut off, but it only went up from there. We had a wonderful STEAM Night on Thursday. Cal Poly students helped us to puzzle over electrical currents, building towers, problem solving (with many constraints thrown in for an extra challenge) and much more. We look forward to this being an annual event. I want to thank our LR STEAM Team: Maija Beaudion, Chris Becker, Reilly Wagner and Chelsea Smiley. A special thanks to Summer Reeves for leading the team and to all the families who came out for the event.
The 10th Annual Paul Reinhardt Bike Parade was also a huge success. Students came in fun costumes and colorfully decorated bikes. They were cheered by a supportive crowd of parents and schoolmates! A special thanks goes to Cambria Bicycle Outfitter and Foothill Cyclery for being here bright and early to make sure everyone’s bike was in tip-top condition! A special thanks to Tony Evans and Paul Reinhardt, whose passion for bike riding keeps this tradition alive!
The best parts of the week, however, were the daily treats and surprises from our parents and students for Staff Appreciation Week. We were all overwhelmed with the goodies, the cards, the flowers and thoughtfulness. We close the week feeling very appreciated and very fortunate to work with such an amazing community of students and parents.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Marlie Schmidt
